The William Morris Society is currently seeking new trustees with background in business administration or museum management plus experience in fundraising.
The Society is in an exciting period of its development as it develops the legacy of its successful Arts & Crafts Hammersmith partnership project. Its trustees retire by rotation and there are 3 vacancies arising in 2020; at least one new trustee will be co-opted in advance of formal adoption at our AGM in May.
Knowledge of the charity sector in general and of fundraising specifically for the museums and educational sector are essential characteristics of the trustees we are seeking. Financial management, business planning and project management skills are highly desirable in at least one of the positions and awareness of museum management and educational outreach for the other position available.
The Society is a membership organisation and charity whose purpose is to broaden public awareness of and engagement with the contemporary relevance of the ideas and principles of William Morris, the great Victorian designer, craftsman, writer, utopian and social and environmental activist. The Society collaborates actively with several other organisations worldwide connected with Morris and his circle of celebrated contemporaries.
Trustees will be expected to take part in regular board meetings (6 per year, including the AGM), and in the committee work of the Trust. Most meetings take place on Saturdays at Kelmscott House in Hammersmith although remote collaboration is increasing. Trustees are unpaid but travel costs to attend committee meetings and other approved out-of-pocket expenses are reimburseable.
Trustees must be members of The William Morris Society.
