Join us for a morning of creativity and learn the intricate art of metal embossing creating your own William Morris inspired festive ornaments! There will also be the opportunity to hear a short introductory talk on our new exhibition ‘Practically Magic’ by our curator who will also show you some of our unique and original objects from our William Morris collection at Kelmscott House.
Guided by expert crafter, Christine Leech, explore simple embossing techniques to create a stunning set of hanging ornaments or a small garland inspired by Morris’ iconic Strawberry Thief design. Suitable for both craft enthusiasts or curious beginners, this workshop will offer a unique opportunity to study the beautiful fauna and flora designs found within this Victorian masterpiece.
The workshop will begin with Christine giving a simple tutorial of the basic techniques and how to prepare your copper, from here, you will choose your motifs and work independently using different embossing tools and techniques to create your ornaments. Christine will be on hand throughout the workshop to give individual guidance and answer any questions. To finish she will help you create a simple garland or ribboned ornaments.
