ZOOM LECTURE: Emery Walker’s House Islamic Collection

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Emery Walker travelled to many places including almost a full tour of Spain and Morocco. These countries were places with a rich Islamic architectural and visual heritage stretching back hundreds of years. In this talk, artist and researcher Dr Sara Choudhrey will be discussing objects from the Emery Walker Trust’s Islamic Collection and how they situate within the wider narrative of Islamic art and its influence on British Arts & Crafts.Objects from the Emery Walker Trust collection are currently featured in the William Morris Society’s exhibition, A Place in Pattern: Islamic Art and its Influences in British Arts & Crafts. Dr Choudhrey will also discuss her own experience and draw connections from current encounters with historic material culture through contemporary art.
