Perpetuating the memory of one of the greatest men of the Victorian age

Politic Man: a performance by three4all theatre

January 21, 2017 15.00 at The Coach House, Kelmscott House

We’re excited to welcome back three4all theatre to Kelmscott House in January. Politic Man is the true story of Alfred Salter and his wife Ada, who between them, stood for local, mayoral and parliamentary elections throughout their lives while living and working in one of the most impoverished areas of London: Bermondsey. They both shared strong convictions of integrity and hope and held high the principle of hard work for the good of the people.
Set against a back drop of slum dwellers in Bermondsey in the first half of the last century, the circumstances of the Salters’ lives can be seen in parallel with today’s social problems: a new kind of poverty, a change in the national ideals of our global nation, the use of war, economic downfall, class divide, health and wealth. Salter and his wife proved that moral values and integrity could walk hand in hand with leadership.
