Perpetuating the memory of one of the greatest figures of the Victorian age

Online talk: “What came we forth for to see that our hearts are so hot with desire”: Morris and Iceland

July 17, 2021 15.00-16.00

The four months William Morris spent in Iceland in 1871 and 1873 were transformational for him. Martin Stott will consider the prose and poetry he wrote during and immediately after these journeys, particularly his Journals, and will focus on the impact of these trips on his political development. He will also consider the impact Morris had, and continues to have, on Iceland and its people.

Martin Stott is a former Chair of Trustees of The William Morris Society and author of the chapter on Morris and Iceland in the Routledge Companion to William Morris.
