Online Talk – Coffee with a Curator: The Holy Grail Tapestries

April 19, 2022 11.00-11.30

In 1890, Morris and Company were commissioned to weave the most ambitious set of tapestries in their history. The stunning Holy Grail tapestries depict scenes from the legend of King Arthur and have been described as ‘beyond doubt…the most significant tapestry series woven in the nineteenth century’. The Society has a wonderful collection of platinum prints of these tapestries by renowned Pre-Raphaelite photographer Frederick Hollyer, all in their original Morris & Company frames.

Please join us to explore the fascinating history of the tapestries and hear the incredible story of the search for the Holy Grail as depicted through the collaborative artistic efforts of William Morris, Edward Burne-Jones and John Henry Dearle.
