May Morris: Art and Advocacy

In celebration of May Morris’s 160th birthday the William Morris Society is holding an exhibition highlighting May’s diverse artistic career and tremendous efforts in establishing the Women’s Guild of Arts. The exhibition will feature the span of May’s work focusing on her designs for embroidery, wallpapers and jewellery as well as display many unique items relating to May from the museum collection. The Society is fortunate to have significant archives of the Women’s Guild of Arts and will be featuring items in this exhibition that have never before been on public display. The exhibition will shine a light on May’s individual talent in both craft and design and her achievements in enabling female artists and crafts makers to fully engage in the artistic community.
