Perpetuating the memory of one of the greatest figures of the Victorian age

London Craft Week: Wallpaper Making Workshop With Allyson McDermott

May 8, 2019 10.00-13.00 at The Coach House, Kelmscott House

During his career William Morris produced over 50 wallpaper designs, many of which are still available and popular today, and The William Morris Society holds an extensive collection of original Morris & Co wallpapers and designs. For this London Craft Week event at the Society’s premises in Morris’s Hammersmith home, wallpaper historian Allyson McDermott will give a talk about the history of wallpaper, followed by a practical demonstration of block printing methods. Participants will see original examples of wallpaper from the collections and will have the opportunity to print their own sample of wallpaper. They will then walk to nearby 7 Hammersmith Terrace, the home of Emery Walker, printer and friend of William Morris, for a tour of this wonderful example of a recently restored Arts & Crafts interior, focussing on Allyson’s conservation of the Morris wallpapers in situ.

Places are strictly limited to 8 per workshop.
