Most of us are comfortable with protecting a Georgian townhouse or the remains of a Roman villa but what about our more recent volume of built heritage? How do Historic England decide what to assess today and how do they make the recommendations?

Simon Hawkins is an Assistant Designation Adviser with Historic England and  a trustee at the William Morris Society with specific responsibility for the House and Gardens.
