November 16, 2021 11.00-11.30

Join Curator Helen Elletson to discover some of the fascinating objects in The William Morris Society’s collection.

In celebration of the 160th anniversary of Morris and Company, this months talk will explore the fascinating history of the firm. From its foundation in 1861 as Morris, Marshall, Faulkner and Company, it’s reconstitution to Morris and Company in 1875 to its voluntary liquidation in 1940, the company produced a remarkable range of products, designed by some of the leading artists of the day. We’ll look at the beautiful products manufactured by the company that are now in the Society’s collection, ranging from wallpapers and textiles to furniture and stained glass.

Our talk will also cover the acquisition of Morris and Company by Sanderson’s and the changing fortunes of the Morris brand in the twentieth century, up to the present-day resurgence in popularity that has seen Morris become a highly successful household name again.
